Our Volunteers

We couldn’t survive without our amazing volunteers. Around 10 people help us with all manner of things from one-to-one support in the warehouse helping our people learn new tasks, IT help, interview practice and lending a friendly ear and emotional support.

We help people recovering from mental health issues such as depression, PTSD and social anxiety, plus those with lifetime disabilities or difficulties such as Autism and Asperger’s, and people struggling to find employment because of a lack of skills, experience or confidence. Everyone that comes to us is facing additional challenges in their life and most come from disadvantaged financial backgrounds. Some have suffered abuse at some point in their lives, many have experienced bullying due to their learning disabilities or even the way they look. What is positive is that these are some of the hardest working people you will ever come across. They all want to work, they want to feel included in society and contribute, just like everybody else.

Our wonderful volunteer Wanda: “It’s a privilege to work with such a super group of people and everyone is always very welcoming at Phoenix”.

Are you willing to come in and help with a hand-assembly job, helping us earn much needed funds.

Can you offer one or some of our people a Supported Work Placement, giving them the vital work experience they need?

Can you mentor someone or help them with interview skills, CV writing and job searching?

Could you help someone with a disability to carry out hand-assembly work, making sure they enjoy their time with us and feel productive and valued?

Do you have a skill that you could share with our people and run a small workshop? Or could you help us get Free Food Fridays back up and running?

We are always looking for volunteers. If you can help, then please contact us!

Corporate Team Volunteering

This year we will have over 100 people volunteering at Phoenix as part of corporate teams doing volunteering days. These days are ‘win-win’. The volunteers find them hugely rewarding, but humbling too as they get an appreciation of the challenges our service users face daily. Our service users love the energy the volunteers bring. Teams of volunteers do hand-assembly jobs alongside our service users, interacting with them and helping to raise much needed income. Volunteers are properly briefed, and encouraged to understand the challenges a charity like Phoenix faces and put their minds to thinking up fundraising and other ideas.

Arval Volunteers

Arval

Not only did they volunteer for a day, but Arval UK chose us as one of the charities to benefit from their Christmas raffle 🙂

NatWest

28 employees from NatWest branches across the South West did a team volunteering day at Phoenix. NatWest have a policy of encouraging their staff to volunteer and get involved in the local community.

Kelly Roberts, Deputy Branch Manager at NatWest’s Swindon Branch, arranged the volunteering: “We were all so impressed by the people who benefit from Phoenix’s services. They all want to work, they want to feel included in society and contribute, just like everybody else.”

“I am so glad we took the time to go and help and I really feel we made a massive difference. We did hand-assembly jobs, just like the service users, and by doing so we raised much needed funds for the charity. It always makes you feel good when you know you’ve really helped.”

We love having teams in volunteering – anything from 2 people to 12 people at a time; for half a day (morning or afternoon) or a full day.
